They had no idea of the significance the date would hold when, on Jan. 6, participants arrived at Bostonâs Museum of Fine Arts to talk peace and unity for a video segment called âVoices on King.â
This is the third year King Boston has collaborated with the MFA for the museumâs annual MLK celebration. But itâs the first time that event has gone entirely virtual, because, obviously, of the pandemic. Watch the 21st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day community celebration at 5 p.m. Monday via www.mfa.org or on the MFAâs Facebook and YouTube pages.
Monday s online celebration will feature a host of local performers and featured speakers.
The Museum of Fine Arts will host its 2021 Martin Luther King Jr. Day community celebration online on Monday, January 18 to commemorate the life and work of Dr. King. The event will be held in partnership with Citizens, which has sponsored the MFA’s annual community celebration for 19 consecutive years.
“Although we are not able to gather in person for our annual MLK Day celebration, we are looking forward to continuing to honor Dr. King’s legacy with a virtual program that will highlight art and community,” said Matthew Teitelbaum, Ann and Graham Gund Director. “Citizens has been a true partner as this event has grown year after year, and we are deeply grateful for their support.”
We’re only two weeks into January, and with all that unfolded last week (was that just last week?), I think we’re all in need of some magic in our lives, and definitely some rest. For this weekend’s event picks, we gathered some things that will take you somewhere else on this upcoming long weekend (virtually, of course).

If you’re like me, and have been missing the feeling of being at a live show this one is for you! BCA Launchpad residents, Castle of our Skins, have put together a musical performance that will be livestreamed from the black box theater at the Boston Center for the Arts, making it feel like an intimate show that you can watch right from your home TV. This performance highlights the “lengthy and complicated intermingling of African American composers and European aesthetics.”
