STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. One of the lawyers representing Mac’s Public House in Grant City in its standoff with officials over coronavirus restrictions slammed the Sheriff’s Office as “a force of ill-trained, undisciplined and inexperienced officers” that is the “antithesis of the NYPD.”
“The current situation with the New York City Sheriff is extremely dangerous for both the Sheriff officers and the public,” criminal defense lawyer Mark Fonte wrote in a letter to the Advance/SILive.com. “The Sheriff’s Office should be led by a professional from the NYPD. Allow the NYPD to institute a training program for the Sheriff’s department.”

Across the country, Democratic leaders were locking down their citizens and destroying their livelihoods with the coronavirus as the pretext. If that wasn’t enough, they were flashing their tyrannical nature by subjecting their people to that treatment while they gallivanted around to expensive restaurants, traveled for Thanksgiving, and one even flew to Mexico for a wedding. At the same time, their gremlins in the liberal media covered up their disgusting hypocrisy.
Two weeks ago, when those leaders and the media were telling people not to celebrate Thanksgiving, California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) was caught red-handed as he and members of the state’s health groups wined and dined inside at an expensive restaurant without masks. Before the pictures came out, those in attendance lied and claimed they were outside and socially distant.
In recent months, the sheriff’s office has been the primary New York City agency enforcing the rules set up to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
Fucito’s force first stepped into the pandemic fray earlier this year while the New York City Police Department was busy grappling with massive street protests over the police killing of George Floyd and a spike in city shootings.
Since August, sheriff’s deputies have shut down 41 illegal large-scale gatherings, including underground parties featuring DJs, alcohol and maskless revelers. They have also stopped more than 9,000 vehicles at bridge-and-tunnel entry points to check on travel origin and warn of quarantine regulations, passing out nearly 64,000 masks in the process.
