One of my favorite and most successful series with Stampede Blue is back for another run in 2020. Yes, it’s the return of the Build-A-Ballard series where we look at common themes and traits in past Chris Ballard draft picks and see which players for the upcoming NFL Draft fit the mold for the Colts.
The goal is to use Ballard’s time in Kansas City where he was the Director of Player Personnel or Director of Football Operations from 2013 to 2016 and his time in Indy to figure out who he may covet come draft time.
Report: Colts Have Met Virtually with Wisconsin-Whitewater OL Quinn Meinerz Recently Prior to NFL Draft
According to The Draft Network’s
Quinn Meinerz recently prior to the 2021 NFL Draft:
In addition to the #Saints and #Rams (previously reported), Wisconsin-Whitewater OL Quinn Meinerz recently met virtually with the #Colts. Justin M (@JustinM NFL) March 1, 2021
The 6’3”, 320 pound offensive lineman started 15 games in 2019, as he saw his senior season cancelled because of COVID-19.
During that junior year, he was AP First-Team All-America and also earned First-Team All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors for Division III football.
Here’s the draft buzz on Meinerz:

This is a follow up to my first post on this subject in early December. Now that the QB situation has clarity, and we are inside a month to the start of the new league year, it seems like a good time for an update.
Active Contracts
The Colts currently have 65 players under contract for 2021. Here they are, along with their cap hits from Over the Cap:

Eliminations
For purposes of this post, I m going to make some assumptions about a lot of these players who IMO will not be in strong contention to make the final roster.

INDIANAPOLIS – Exhausted and disappointed.
Those were the emotions Chris Ballard felt in the aftermath of the Colts’ season ending on Saturday in Buffalo.
After a few days to recharge, Ballard held his end-of-the-season press conference on Thursday afternoon.
Here are some of the highlights from Ballard’s presser:
Philip Rivers
-On if he wants Philip Rivers back in 2021: “Here’s the discussion I had with Philip, and I had it with Frank (Reich) and I’m talking with Mr. Irsay this afternoon. Do I think Philip can still play? Absolutely, I do. Philip and I had an hour talk (Wednesday). He’s going to take time. And we are going to take some time. We will meet here in about a month and figure out which way we are going to move forward. Philip has to figure out if he still wants to play. So, we need to go through that process. Do I think Philip Rivers is a winning quarterback that we can win and go to the Super Bowl with? Abs
In this series on Stampede Blue, I’m going to break down each player on a 50-100 Madden-style scale each week to help identify and illustrate which players are the best and most valuable players on.
