The Late Late Show aired for the final time in 2020 on Friday evening and it was a cracker of a programme.
Ryan and the gang brought the annual Simon Community busk to TV screens this year, rounding up some of Ireland’s most celebrated musicians for a charity sing-song in studio.
The busk, which normally takes place on Grafton Street to raise money for Ireland’s homeless, was cancelled this year due to the health pandemic and so Glen Hansard rallied his talented friends to join him in the Late Late studio for a televised session.
The Once genius, who spearheaded the whole busk some ten years ago, was joined by the likes of Bono and The Edge, Finbarr Fury, Imelda May, Roisin O, John Sheahan, Steve Garrigan of Kodaline, Danny O’Reilly and others on last night’s feel-good show.

“We got some criticism for Shane MacGowan’s appearance on the [Late Late Show] last night, cruel remarks,” Clarke said on Twitter. “But often it’s the person who looks totally normal and healthy who is quietly hiding despair, myself included so please look out for your loved ones!”
Speaking to Independent.ie, Clarke said: “Mental health and addiction are very complex problems and people don’t realise that quite often the person themselves has very little or no control over whatever kind of substance abuse they’re doing - because it’s an illness.
“Of course, he’s [MacGowan] not looking the best, if he was run over by car, he wouldn’t look the best either.”

Today, she addressed the comment again, adding: “I really want to thank this guy, he has apologised for what he said and he realises that it was insensitive. You are totally forgiven!!!!”
Clarke married MacGowan two years ago in 2018 during Christmas in Copenhagen. The couple had been together for 32 years at that point.
Last night’s busking event would usually take place in person on Christmas Eve, but due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, it was moved to the Late Late Show.
In the end, €1.2m was raised for the homeless charity the Simon Community last night.
