TALLAHASSEE â Local governments were largely spared from vetoes made by Gov. Ron DeSantis as a part of the stateâs $100 billion budget.
But some Tampa Bay area programs were among the unlucky few to have their funding stripped by Floridaâs chief executive. DeSantis announced Wednesday that he had vetoed nearly $9 million in Tampa Bay-area projects â a sum that reflected the small overall number of budget vetoes. In Florida, the state Legislature crafts the annual budget, but the governor has the power to veto individual line items.
Over 236,000 People Vaccinated in Pasco County
The seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate is at 3.8 percent in Pasco County as of Tuesday, June 1. This is the lowest the rolling positivity rate has been since October 2020. The Florida Department of Health in Pasco County (DOH-Pasco) continues to urge our 65+ residents who are vaccinated to encourage their friends and family to get vaccinated, also.
As of Saturday, May 29, Pasco County has vaccinated 236,847people: 43,664 people have received their first doses and 193,183 people have completed their second doses.

Car theft ring stole 41 vehicles throughout Tampa Bay, petition says
The Florida Highway Patrol is now seeking permission to search a cell phone from one of the men arrested from the ring.

Vehicles started going missing from dealerships across Tampa Bay last summer.
In total, 41 cars were stolen, from Dodge Charger Hellcats to a 2021 Buccaneers Super Bowl Edition Jeep Wrangler. Police say they were stolen by members of an auto theft ring, where people would break the windows of vehicles at dealerships before hot-wiring them.
