1. (500) DAYS OF SUMMER (12, 95 mins)
Streaming from May 7 on Disney+
“This is a story of boy meets girl but you should know up front, this is not a love story…” begins the droll narrator of Marc Webb’s quirky comedy. From the opening frames of (500) Days Of Summer, we are acutely aware that this romance on the sun-dappled streets of New York City has no happy ending. Love can be uplifting and inspiring, but it can also be cruel and unforgiving.

Employing us to make this day grand, there are several shouts on the airwaves reminding us that, “She must be treated special”, or “It’s her day” and of course, the ever popular: “…not only on Mother’s Day.” Unfortunately, the harsh reality is that many of those one-liners fade from our minds, just about the same time that the sun fades into the night on this special day.

13 times Alabama took over the Oscars
Updated 6:00 AM;
Oscar week is upon us, and Alabama has a chance to add to its long history of winning Academy Awards if and when “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” brings home the gold.
The critically acclaimed film abut the Alabama-born blues woman scored five nominations and could very well win for best actor and actress thanks to powerful performances from Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis.
Until then, we wanted to look back at some of Alabama’s biggest moments at the Oscars, for natives who won the big prize and for films set or shot in the state that either won or earned nominations. Dating back to the 1960s, the state holds connections to best picture winners and more, from “Forrest Gump” to “Get Out.”
