Multiple illegal structures in Abaco shantytown will be demolished, Bannister says Desmond Bannister.
Minister of Public Works Desmond Bannister said multiple illegal structures that were erected at the Farm shantytown in Treasure Cay, Abaco, since September 2019 will be demolished in the coming days.
The action will be a part of the government’s phased plan to deal with the unregulated community, which Bannister said has flourished since the passage of Hurricane Dorian in 2019.
As he provided an update on the recent raid of that shantytown in the House of Assembly today, Bannister said following the monster storm there were only 30 structures at the Farm.

A Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) government would hold publicly televised hearings into the affairs at Bahamas Power and Light (BPL), PLP Leader Philip Brave Davis said yesterday.
“There has been one bad decision after another at BPL and it has cost the Bahamian people dearly,” said Davis, who served as former minister of works with responsibility with BPL.
“There is no accountability; there is no transparency.
“The Rate Reduction Bond will add more to our electricity bill, and there appears to be no plan to reduce the cost of electricity to absorb that.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis said yesterday that if the Free National Movement (FNM) is successful in being re-elected to office, he and Deputy Prime Minister Desmond Bannister will do something that has never been done in The Bahamas: “split” the leadership of the government.
The prime minister made the statement while leading the mid-year budget debate in Parliament.
“The deputy prime minister and I have a commitment,” Minnis said.
Cabinet ministers express confidence in FNM re-election Desmond Bannister.
Several Cabinet ministers yesterday expressed optimism about the Free National Movement’s (FNM) chances of being re-elected as the current term nears its end.
Deputy Prime Minister Desmond Bannister said the Minnis administration will be judged on what it has accomplished.
“This Cabinet will be judged on the basis of what we have done,” he said.
Asked if he believes the FNM will win the next election, Bannister said: “There is no question about that. In my mind, no question. There is going to be a second Minnis term as prime minister.”
