Tesco UK, one of the largest buyers of Irish beef, has announced its intentions to increase sales of plant-based meat alternatives by 300% by 2025 as part of a shake-up in its plans over the next five years.
The plans are “to make Tesco the easiest place for customers to shop for affordable, healthy, sustainable food”, the retail giant says.
The plans contain three sections.
Together with Tesco’s “existing ambition to increase sales of plant-based food”, the supermarket’s 2025 “commitments on health” are:
An “increase in sales of healthy products”, as a proportion of total sales, to 65% by 2025, as defined by the UK government’s nutrient profiling model;

One of Ireland s biggest buyers of beef, Tesco UK, is to increase its sales of plant-based meat by 300pc and will reportedly offer a fake meat alternative to every meat product on its UK shelves within four years.
Tesco Ireland has not ruled following the move of its parent company, when questioned by the Farming Independent.
The move by Tesco UK is part of a policy by the supermarket to reduce meat and dairy consumption, according to the report.
The Telegraph detailed contents of a leaked email from David Lewis, the former CEO of the supermarket to Greenpeace, shortly before he left the company at the end of last year laying out its plans to encourage customers to eat less meat.

From tomorrow the Tesco deal will be on offer. Running from Wednesday 17 February to Tuesday 23 February, five packs of Cadbury Creme Eggs will be available for only £1.
