Rehoboth begins to make rules for new canal dock

A decade’s worth of planning and construction for the Grove Park Canal Dock in Rehoboth Beach was completed in January. Now, city commissioners have begun the process of creating rules for how the new amenity will operate. During a commissioner workshop Feb. 8, City Manager Sharon Lynn said rules and regulations need to be created. Hours of operation and safety concerns need to be addressed, she said. City Arborist Liz Lingo, who oversees management of the city’s parks, presented commissioners with a draft of the rules. The city thinks this does a pretty good job of laying things out for the dock, she said.

Becker Morgan Group announces employee promotions

February 19, 2021 Becker Morgan Group announced the following recent employee promotions. Jonathan Richard, PE, was promoted to senior associate. A civil engineer, Richard has been with the firm for 16 years. He has completed numerous successful projects ranging across commercial, healthcare and institutional sectors. He takes a vested interest in developing younger staff members and serves on the firm’s Blue Zone committee responsible for recruitment, retention and company culture. Chris Weeks of Rehoboth Beach was promoted to associate. Weeks joined Becker Morgan Group in 2007 and leads the firm’s business development efforts across its four offices. He serves on the Beebe Healthcare board of directors and is actively involved in the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber volunteer award renamed in memory of Cheryl Blackman

The Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce annually recognizes a community member for service. This year, the chamber debuts that recognition as the Cheryl Blackman Volunteer of the Year Award in honor of the late Blackman, who loved and served the resort area for 53 years before her passing Dec. 7, 2016. As a central figure in Rehoboth Beach, Blackman’s infectious smile and genuine connection with the community will not be forgotten. While small in stature, she dedicated her life to making the world a better place. In addition to supporting the chamber of commerce, she volunteered and raised money for numerous causes including the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company, the Village Improvement Association, the Cordrey Charities, and her favorite organization, KINFolk.

Rehoboth unsure what to do about Lake Gerar Tot Lot

Rehoboth Beach  Delaware  19971United States Rehoboth Beach is in the middle of planning its budget for next year, and for the second straight year, the future of the Lake Gerar tot lot is taking up a significant part of the discussion. The city’s fiscal year runs April 1 to March 31. City Manager Sharon Lynn presented commissioners with a $27.7 million budget Jan. 15. The proposed budget includes a 2 percent raise for employees and approximately $4.9 million in capital improvements. As of now, there’s $350,000 toward a new playground for the Lake Gerar tot lot. During a budget meeting Feb. 8, City Arborist Liz Lingo said the playground is the oldest in the city and she has recommended it be demolished in favor of a larger, handicap-accessible playground because it’s no longer safe. Lingo made the same recommendation last year with a proposed budget of $250,000. Last year, commissioners earmarked $100,000 toward the playground, but then COVID-19 hit and the city playgrou
