Matthews sees exciting opportunity with IU offense, special teams

The ice, the cold, the snow it all took some getting used to for a dude from Florida. But the radical adjustment in winter weather from his home in Jacksonville, Fla. to his new home in Bloomington was a change that D.J. Matthews was willing no, eager to make.
The former Florida State receiver found himself enthused about flying north to start the spring semester at IU in January, the first checkpoint in what he hopes will be a strong finish to his college career later this fall. At Indiana, Matthews sees opportunity. He sees an offense with great potential, and he sees himself fitting into a couple of familiar roles when spring practice gets underway next week.

Sherane “Rane” Blackman is working on becoming one of soca’s powerful voices. The singer/songwriter’s latest single My Behavior is her way of taking her one step closer to her goal.
The US-based, TT- born singer has been singing since she was a child, she said in a press release.
Rane was introduced to calypso, soca and Carnival from an early age.
“I was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and was introduced to calypso, soca and Carnival at a tender age by my paternal grandmother as she would ensure that I was jumping up in some kiddies band every Carnival season.”
Let s hope Tom Allen never does get his hands on a roster full of Big Ten average talent, because he knows what to do with it, at least on defense. Fortunately he hasn t been able to recruit like his predecessors, and that leaves some major gaps he s constantly plugging. From a film analyst perspective a good and desperately undermanned coach like Allen is awesome. It takes me back to watching the defenses Mattison was calling at Michigan in 2011, except Allen s talent is mostly in the secondary. Oh what he wouldn t give for a Mike Martin or Ryan Van Bergen.
Instead he s rolling out the 3-stars people wanted Michigan to go after when they whiffed on the twitchier giants, and the generic 300-pound three-stars are getting deposited into the second level. Allen makes up for it by leaving no linebackers in the way. It s a gamble he has to take, and works well enough to keep them in games when his opposition is trying to just do their thing and getting frustrated that nobody seems to be

For the first time in 33 years, the Big Ten’s best football coach can be found in Bloomington.
Tom Allen was named Big Ten Coach of the Year by league coaches and media members on Thursday, becoming only the second sideline boss in program history to receive the award. Bill Mallory was similarly honored by the conference in 1986 and 1987.
It’s been a good stinkin’ run for Allen and his group this year, as we all know. And while conference luminaries are saluting him for the Hoosiers’ on-field achievements, Allen has provided a long list of memorable moments off the field, too.
