A proposed redevelopment of city-owned property in downtown Austin includes a 36-story residential tower and a 15-story office tower, but City Council members say they aren t ready to move forward on it and need more time to evaluate how the space can best be used for vulnerable populations.
The City Council had been scheduled to vote Thursday on whether to enter into an exclusive negotiation period with a private contractor whose proposal had received the top score from the city among four offers. The city has intended to redevelop the property, which is at Red River and 12th streets, since HealthSouth terminated its lease in December 2016.
