TOP NEWS: UK Ofcom reveals outcome of 5G spectrum auction Wed, 17th Mar 2021 08:58 (Alliance News) - The UK telecommunications regulator on Wednesday announced BT Group PLC s mobile business EE Ltd has won 80 megahertz of 5G spectrum in an auction. The FTSE 100-listed telecommunications firm said EE has secured new 700 megahertz and 3.6 to 3.8 gigahertz bands spectrum for GBP452 million. Ofcom said in December that EE, CK Hutchison Holdings Ltd s Hutchison 3G UK Ltd, Telefonica UK Ltd, part of Telefonica SA, and Vodafone Ltd, part of Vodafone Group PLC, had qualified to take part in the spectrum auction and that they were established bidders as of January.

Canadian pension fund CDPQ to invest up to $317 million in Brazil fiber network with Telefonica

By Reuters Staff 2 Min Read BRASILIA (Reuters) - The Brazilian unit of Spanish telecom Telefonica SA said on Tuesday that it had agreed with Canadian pension fund CDPQ to create a joint venture to develop a “neutral and independent” wholesale fiber optic network in Brazil. According to a securities filing, Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) will invest up to 1.8 billion reais ($317 million) in the venture, receiving a 50% voting share. Telefonica Brasil will have a 25% voting stake, while Telefonica Infra, another subsidiary of the Spanish company, will have the remaining 25% share. The new venture, called FiBrasil Infraestrutura e Fibra Ótica S.A., aims to reach 5.5 million households within 4 years.
