When the Delaware Food Bank made food available during COVID-19 s early days, they stated on their flyers that participants had to bring ID and proof of Delaware residency. They werre not trying to withhold food from people that need it they were making sure that they are serving Delawareans and people that live in our state.
When people apply for Medicaid or state assistance, DHSS asks for proof of residency, proof of age and require a birth certificate or a driver’s license. It’s not because they want to deny people services, it is because they are securing the integrity and accountability to those they serve in Delaware.

Delaware Botanic Gardens will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 9, with free admission for those who bring a nonperishable food item to support the Food Bank of Delaware.
“We want to thank our community and supporters by celebrating Mother’s Day with free admission Sunday, May 9, with a donation of food. We all recognize the continuing need for food assistance here in our region. We ask that you bring a nonperishable food donation when you join us to celebrate Mother’s Day. The Lord Baltimore Lions Club announced this week that they are expanding the present club service commitment to the Delaware Food Bank in Milford and plan to add an additional work shift starting in May 2021.
âDuring this pandemic year of great stress and concern for food insecurity from so many in Sussex County and beyond, the Lord Baltimore Lions Board endorsed expansion in this important service area,â representatives said.
Club President Jack Bauer said, âAlthough we are adding just three more hours per month, we hope that it makes a difference in helping some of our neighbors in greatest need. The Delaware Food Bank supports so many organizations and food distribution centers, it is an essential service.â
