Nursing homes across Alabama are gearing up to immunize every resident and worker who wants to be vaccinated.
“The vaccine gives us hope. This could be the big step forward that we need (for) returning life to normal in nursing homes,” said John Matson, spokesperson for the Alabama Nursing Home Association.
Starting this month, about 52,000 Pfizer vaccines for COVID-19 will be distributed to Alabama nursing homes through a federal partnership with CVS, Walgreens and local pharmacies.
The vaccines, which require special equipment to be transported and stored at ultracold temperatures, are expected to arrive in Alabama by December 21st. The shots require two doses, weeks apart, and will be administered to residents after the holidays, according to Matson.
