Local News: Eureka Springs city council moves forward with subdivision (2/2/21)

Tuesday, February 2, 2021 The Eureka Springs City Council is on board with the new Pine Crest Subdivision. On Monday, Jan. 25, the council heard an application from Jay Gustin for the subdivision, located off Pivot Rock Road. Council member Terry McClung moved to prepare an ordinance to approve the subdivision and city clerk Ann Armstrong explained that the proposed ordinance is a draft because city attorney Tim Weaver hasn’t had a chance to look over it yet. McClung asked Gustin if he can wait two weeks for the subdivision to be approved and Gustin said that would be fine with him. McClung suggested deferring the issue to the council’s next meeting, where the council would complete all three readings of the ordinance.

The commission agreed to hold a special meeting on Jan. 20 to discuss the events coordinator and Auditorium manager position, where Johnson s pay was a hot topic. Jan. 20 meeting The commission s Jan. 20 special meeting kicked off with commissioner Harry Meyer asking for someone to fill him in on what was happening. Along with commissioner Melissa Greene, Meyer was recently appointed to the commission by the Eureka Springs City Council for a one-year term. Commissioner James DeVito described how the COVID-19 pandemic affected the city, saying everything shut down in March 2020.

Local News: Eureka Springs council approves city budget for 2021 (1/21/21)

Thursday, January 21, 2021 The Eureka Springs City Council approved the city’s 2021 budget at its regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 11. Mayor Butch Berry kicked off the discussion by explaining that all the new council members received a copy of the budget. He said the budget is “strictly a budget.” “It’s something to go by. It kind of sets our goals and standards for the coming year,” Berry said. “We will be looking at it again mid-year. If anything comes up, heaven forbid, like last year in March, we can always … make changes at that point in time.” New council member Bill Ott asked who would bring that information to the council’s attention and Berry said he would. The council will also have a monthly budget workshop, Berry said, to keep everyone updated on the state of the city’s finances. When the council members see the budget at those workshops, Berry said, the sales tax report will be two months behind.

Foster said she spoke with Mayor Butch Berry, who told her the job posting would stay on the city’s website until Jan. 31. She emailed finance director Rick Bright to check the minutes from the Nov. 18 meeting to see if the commission voted to post the job online, Foster said.
