County salutes Memorial Day

While some Memorial Day observances in and around Highland County will still not be quite what they were before the COVID-19 pandemic, several are returning to a full schedule activities.
Following is list of what several communities reported to The Times-Gazette:
In Hillsboro, VFW Post 9094 Commander Rick Wilkin said this year’s Memorial Day observance will still be modest, but no less important. Thirty-nine new bricks containing the names of honored veterans were recently installed at the Highland County Veterans Memorial at the courthouse, where the annual observance will be held Monday, May 31.
City of Jacksonville to open pools at full capacity, masks will be optional

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The City of Jacksonville is set to reopen 26 of its public pools at full capacity during the holiday weekend.
While masks will not be required for guests, they are encouraged. Pool staff will also work to sanitize the common areas and encourage those in confined areas to socially distance, according to the city.
Futrell said their EMS run volume increased in the first quarter, but transfers have decreased.
He noted the COVID calls are continuing to decrease. He said they have gone from 20 to 60 in a month to one or two calls a week.
Futrell said they are starting a community risk assessment this summer that will data-driven which will allow them to see the deficiencies are in the city.

MACON, Ga. As some parents anticipate the payout from the child tax credit, others ask how to send it back. Viewer Shirley Williams sent us this question, How do you opt-out of the child tax credit?
She added, I d rather do it at the end of the year instead of receiving it every month. I went to the IRS.gov site and couldn t find out how to do it. After receiving several comments about that, we set out to verify.
