Live Blog: No. 1 Ole Miss vs. No. 18 Texas
ARLINGTON The Ole Miss baseball team takes on the University of Texas Monday at Globe Life Field. After defeating then-No. 3 Texas Tech, 5-4, Sunday, the Rebels have now
ascended to the No. 1 ranking in Baseball America’s Top 25 following the victory over TCU Saturday and the Red Raiders.
We will have a batter-by-batter update here in our live blog throughout the game. Scroll down for updates and refresh as needed.
The Rebels will be the visiting team in today’s game and will send Derek Diamond to the mound. In 2020, he went at least 5.0 IP in every single outing, and Ole Miss did not lose a game in which he started.
No. 1 Rebels Dominate the State Farm Showdown
After receiving high praise in the offseason, head coach Mike Bianco’s Diamond Rebels marched into Texas and absolutely dominated.
“Mike Bianco is past his prime”
“He’ll never make it back to Omaha.”
“His best teams are behind him.”
For years, Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco has heard gripes similar to those above from a fanbase that desperately wants a College World Series title. And for years, he’s been oh-so-close to delivering.
In 2014, his Rebels team led by Auston Bousefield and Sikes Orvis was on the cusp of a banner but fell short in Omaha. In 2018, Bianco’s squad won 48 games, tied for the most in a single season with him as coach. However, a hot-hitting Tennessee Tech team managed to come to the Oxford regional and stomp out the Rebs’ CWS hopes.

The last time audiences witnessed Martin Gore, David Gahan and Andrew Fletcher – collectively, Euro-electronic pop avatars Depeche Mode – together was when the trio, virtually and humorously, accepted their award as part of the 2020 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Come March, Depeche will be up for another award, as its 2020 career-collecting set, the all-black, all square “MODE,” is nominated for Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package (for art director Jeff Schulz).
Like the rest of the music-making and touring world, Depeche has had to sit out the last 12 months. Its principle composer and co-founding member Martin Gore, however, had other plans namely a new solo record, “The Third Chimpanzee.”
