The Vancouver Whitecaps made headlines last month with the signing of Ryan Gauld. But some of us (freaks) were also playing close attention to the players they have out on loan. Here is how those players did.
Simon Colyn and Damiano Pecile
Colyn’s loan has ended and I am not really sure where he is right now or what the Whitecaps’ plan for him is. I have asked Sam to make some inquiries so perhaps we will know more soon.
Venezia’s reserve team still doesn’t seem to have played any games but their Serie A season kicks off in a couple weeks so surely some game time for Pecile is on the horizon. Or maybe not, again, I don’t really understand how anything works over there.

The LA Galaxy, winners of three of their last four matches, resume Major League Soccer regular season play Saturday night in Sandy, Utah against the host Vancouver Whitecaps.
The Whitecaps continue to use Rio Tinto Stadium in the Salt Lake City suburb as their home base due to Canadian-U.S. travel restrictions related to the coronavirus but expect to return to their real home before too long. Montreal and Toronto received clearance starting this weekend, but the Vancouver officials continue to monitor the situation in British Columbia.
The Galaxy (8-4-0, 24 points) and Whitecaps (2-7-3, 9 points), are far apart in the standings, with Vancouver in last place in the Western Conference and the Galaxy in third, but in 13 meetings since the start of the 2016 season, each team has five wins and there have been three draws.

The Vancouver Whitecaps signed Derek Cornelius to a contract extension Monday and sent the defender on loan to Greek Super League side Panetolikos FC through December 2022.
The 23-year-old Canadian s contract was extended through 2022 with a club option for 2023.
Cornelius made five appearances (one start) for the Whitecaps this season and has one goal in 35 career games (28 starts) with Vancouver since making his MLS debut in 2019. It is important for Derek to continue playing to progress in his career, and we worked closely with him and his representatives to find the best option, Whitecaps CEO and sporting director Axel Schuster said in a club statement. This is a great opportunity for Derek to test himself in a very competitive league.
