A school board that has been embroiled in dispute with the school district for nearly two years hit an ultimate low on March 8 while evaluating its superintendent in a public setting at her request. Despite an introduction from Ontario School Board of Directors Chairwoman Renae Corn at the onset of the meeting to keep things civil, there were several points of the meeting which were anything but.
The top of these was when board member Derrick Draper took Superintendent Nicole Albisu to task over the title of a book being read in an after-hours administrative book club. He found out about it, he said, through Ontario Middle School Principal Lisa Longoriaâs Facebook page in a comment she had made to someone else. The annual evaluation of Ontario School District Superintendent Nicole Albisu took nearly three hours on March 8, as board members discussed their individual rankings on various aspects of the superintendentâs performance. They will meet again Monday to agree on a final consensus score on each of the standards they evaluated her on.
At the onset of the meeting Chairwoman Renae Corn read from a prepared statement, noting the meeting was being held in open session at Albisuâs request. Corn urged the board to use courtesy and civility and respect the need for honest conversations.
âIt is our hope that moving forward we can return to proper dignity and courtesy among board members, administrators, staff, students, parents and community members,â Corn said.

Despite a request from about 30 teachers from Ontario High School to launch an investigation into the matter of a board member receiving a secretly recorded staff meeting, the Ontario School Board of Directors considers the matter final.
However, that is not the case with some or all of the teachers who signed a second complaint over the matter, according to information received from Ryan Roulston, who is the president of the union at Ontario High School. Some teachers have contacted law enforcement officials regarding the matter. Additionally, they contacted the Oregon School Boards Association.
âWe have reached out to OSBA to provide a second opinion on this matter to our Board â¦â Roulston said in an email on Monday.
