Time to deliver: MP | Maribyrnong & Hobsons Bay

Goya Dmytryshchak A ‘super’ ambulance station pledged for Maribyrnong in 2016 has yet to be built by the state government. In December 2016, the government announced it would build a new 24-hour station with 14 full-time equivalent paramedics and an extra ambulance for the area. At the time, then Footscray MP Marsha Thomson said Maribyrnong’s new “super response centre” meant “extra capacity for emergencies such as the thunderstorm asthma event”. “There will be a lot of consideration in the siting, but the intention is to move as quickly as we can,” Ms Thomson had said. Last week, a government spokesperson said planning and scoping for the project was “well under way”.

Covid-19: Melbourne health authorities alert but not alarmed after hundreds ordered to retest over sewage samples

Victorian health authorities remain “alert but not alarmed” at the prospect of a new Covid-19 case after the discovery of viral fragments in wastewater sparked an order to more than 240 people to immediately retest. The urgent warning was followed by news that a seventh mass vaccination clinic will open in the Melbourne suburb of Cranbourne next week, the same day all Victorians over the age of 50 will be eligible for a Covid-19 jab. The 246 people from an extensive list of suburbs who were told to get retested on Thursday include recently returned interstate travellers from designated red or orange zone areas and four close contacts of the positive case who travelled from Perth to Melbourne on flight QF778 last week.

Infrastructure Victoria panel calls for end of new petrol car sales, amid slow take-up of electric vehicles

Print text only Cancel The following scenario could be difficult to imagine, when you consider 99 per cent of Australia s cars are currently not powered by electricity. By 2030, there would be no new petrol or diesel cars sold they would all be electric or hydrogen-powered. It would be compulsory for all new property developments to have electric charging stations, and governments would offer generous subsidies to encourage drivers to trade in petrol-guzzling cars in favour of low or zero emission vehicles. However, these were among the leading ideas put forward by a panel of 211 everyday Victorians for an Infrastructure Victoria consultation program.
