Jimmies Win Twice Friday to Reach Bracket Championship

(jimmiepride.com) -The University of Jamestown baseball team advanced to the championship game of the Doane bracket in the GPAC postseason tournament, defeating Northwestern (Iowa) College 10-1 and Mount Marty (S.D.) University 9-5. Jamestown, now 30-22 this season, will face Doane University Saturday at 10 a.m. The Jimmies will need to defeat the Tigers twice to advance to the GPAC championship game. A bases-loaded walk to Tayler Cullen (JR/Santa Rosa, Calif.) and a two-run single by Mike Asahara (SO/Spanaway, Wash.) staked the Jimmies to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first against Northwestern in Friday’s opener.

University 8-4 Wednesday afternoon at Jack Brown Stadium. With the score tied 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth, Chase Hacker (SR/Millcreek, WA) reached on a two-out walk. Rice then drove an 0-1 pitch from John Koronoka (0-2) over the right field fence to make it 6-4. Dickinson State took a 1-0 lead on an RBI groundout by Robert Encinas that scored Kobe Krenz from third.
