Kivi Park will be protected from development for the foreseeable future.
During a meeting of the planning committee recently, councillors voted to approve a rezoning application by the Clifford and Lily Fielding Charitable Foundation, which officially converted all the parcels of land comprising Kivi Park into parkland.

The rezoning application, presented by Wendy Kaufman, a senior planner with the city, sought to rezone the parts of the 400-acre park owned by the Fielding Foundation to open space private.

City council is making a last-ditch effort to lend a helping hand to Laurentian University.
At Tuesday’s council meeting, councillors Deb McIntosh (Ward 9) and Fern Cormier (Ward 10) presented a motion they hope will provide some hope for the beleaguered post-secondary school.

“Be it resolved the council of the City of Greater Sudbury call on the province of Ontario to intervene in this ongoing process as soon as possible and commit to providing the much needed funding to secure the future viability and sustainability of Laurentian University,” the motion read.
