After watching her four children grow up to pursue their dreams, Michelle McCarter decided it was time to chase her own.
She applied for the Aveda Institute, a Cosmetology and Esthiology school, in Tucson and started its esthetics program in September 2019.
âI was always interested and curious about skin care and taking care of my own as early as my teen years,â she said. âI made the decision to go back to school to learn more in this field and be able to offer knowledge and treatments to others.â

Former NBA star and social justice champion, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has formed a new collaborative partnership with the estate of Bruce Lee. The partnership, presided over by Iconomy LLC, will kick off with the release of a limited edition t-shirt with the purpose of tackling systemic racism and fighting for social justice.
“We had an unlikely friendship – a 7 foot 2 basketball player and a 5 foot 8 martial artist – but we had a shared interest in music, the arts, philosophy, and improving the lives of people who looked like us,” said Abdul-Jabbar.
“We believe that tackling systemic racism starts with making a friends who doesn’t look like you and creating empathy for others. That’s what we’re hoping to promote with our social justice champion/social justice warrior efforts.”

Retired firefighter Ricardo Rick Guerra won the San Benito mayoral runoff election Saturday night.
Guerra won about 58% of 1,829 ballots cast during the runoff election, according to preliminary results published by the Cameron County Elections Department on Saturday night.
Guerra defeated former San Benito Mayor Celeste Zepeda Sanchez, who won nearly 42% of ballots cast.
San Benito voters also re-elected City Commissioner Rene Villafranco.
He won nearly 53% of 1,813 ballots case in the runoff election for City Commission Place 2, according to the Elections Department.
