Former President Trump on Sunday announced a new legal defense team for his Senate impeachment trial, a day after it was reported that his previous lead attorney and four others would no longer represent him.

Former president Donald Trump announced a new impeachment legal defence team on Sunday, one day after it was revealed that he had parted ways with an earlier set of attorneys with just over a week to go before his Senate trial.
The two representing Trump will be defence lawyer David Schoen, a frequent television legal commentator, and Bruce Castor, a former district attorney in Pennsylvania who has faced criticism for his decision to not charge actor Bill Cosby in a sex crimes case.

The ex-US President stands accused of incitement to insurrection after an angry mob of his supporters stormed the Capitol buildings on January 6, while Congress was counting the Electoral College votes. The impeachment trial is scheduled to take place on February 8 and Mr Trump is due to file a defence to the charges on Tuesday. However, two top lawyers have decided to pull out of his legal team, according to US media reports.
