Virtual meetings case helped by Jenrick move | Local Government Chronicle (LGC)

Virtual meetings case ‘helped’ by Jenrick move The court case seeking to allow virtual council meetings to continue after 6 May has been strengthened by the government’s decision to support it, the two bodies involved have said. Communities secretary Robert Jenrick said yesterday that the government would support the argument that virtual meetings were permitted by the Local Government Act 1972, despite the ‘sunset clause’ used to permit them in the coronavirus regulations ending on 6 May. The Act allows councils freedom of action in various circumstances that could apply even though virtual meetings were not envisaged in 1972. Lawyers in Local Government (LLG) and the Association of Democratic Services Officers (ADSO) are bringing the case as they fear the potential effects on their members’ health if they are required to attend all meetings face-to-face.

Second dose of COVID vaccine delivered to NH housing residents

SOMERSWORTH – Teams of two volunteers and one health care professional walked door-to-door Wednesday to administer second doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to residents in five of the Somersworth Housing Authority s buildings. The hallways were lined with residents who sat ready, poised in their kitchen chairs they were told to place in their apartment doorway. The Strafford County Public Health Network volunteers went to each door, carrying a bright purple duffle bag filled with supplies to administer the vaccine and handouts on what side effects to expect. The clinic was a follow up to first-dose vaccines administered in February to Somersworth Housing Authority residents in the Filion Terrace Apartments, Queensbury Mill Apartments, Charpentier Apartments and Albert Jack LaBonte Maple St. Apartments.

Coronavirus in Powys: One year on from first cases

As a businessman for 35 years now, I ve had first-hand experience myself, and am aware of the significant impact on hospitality through to retail. The council has worked very closely with the Welsh Government to distribute the grant-funding sent by the UK Government and have been very active in making sure businesses can access that. Going forward it s difficult to say where we will be in the near future. I m hoping restrictions ease so non-essential retailers can re-open soon. It s fair to say hospitality has been hit the worst. I know people with pubs and B&B s who are down to their last few pounds.
