DENVER The City of Denver s Department of Housing Stability announced on Thursday extra emergency shelter options for people experiencing homelessness during the approaching snowstorm this weekend.
The city announced a standby shelter for men and transgender people is planned for at St. Charles Recreation Center starting Friday, Mar. 12, at 7 p.m. through Wednesday, Mar. 17. Denver said the standby shelter is being prepared in case of any unanticipated complications due to the storm.

Frank Galloway falls into the most vulnerable categories for COVID-19: He is 87, he is Black, and he is experiencing homelessness.
“It ain’t no joke,” Galloway said of the coronavirus, which has killed some of his friends in Greensboro, North Carolina. “I don t mind taking something that will help my life to keep going.”
He’s waiting for a vaccine while staying in an emergency shelter. Although the state began vaccinating people age 65 and up in mid-January, Galloway, like many others without housing, doesn’t have access to the technology and transportation that people in many places need to get a shot.
$385 million in Colorado housing assistance available, but payments delayed

COLORADO, USA The money from the latest federal relief package for housing assistance will be available in Colorado this week, according to the state Department of Local Affairs (DOLA.)
Colorado will receive more than $385 million, with more than $137 million of that divided into portions for individual counties.
While there won t be a lapse in assistance from programs like Property Owner Preservation (POP), or the Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP), there is a delay in getting the money out to people approved to receive it.
The City of Denver released a statement on Monday urging the state to allow cities to prioritize individuals experiencing homelessness as a vulnerable population. We asked residents, experts and leaders about their reaction to this plan.
