BOURNE The town has brought in an outsider to lead the Bourne Police Department until a permanent chief is named.
Town Administrator Anthony Schiavi said the decision to name Paul Shastany, a law enforcement veteran of more than 40 years, to the interim position was made in an effort to take an outside look at the department s operations.
“I have made it my life, my career, my vision to turn around troubled police departments and to bring people beyond the normal, national standards,” Shastany said during a Jan. 19 Board of Selectmen meeting.
A retired police chief, Shastany has led departments in Braintree and Stoughton. He started in Bourne on Monday and is expected to serve for six months.
