Cattle thieves are preying on farmers’ animals in the Argyle/Akers area leaving only the ropes and manure behind, and last month slaughtered two cows within three weeks belonging to the same farmer.
Retired teacher Dennis Deane also suffered losses.
Cutting through one section of Akers is a narrow road, with trees and slopes on either side, and houses appearing once in a while.
This area can become lonely, and some of the street lights are not working. It seems that in recent months someone or more likely some persons have been using this remoteness to slaughter cattle and transport them away to sell to unknown
Verstappen’s Austin penalty ‘sticks’ with steward

Steward Garry Connelly has said the decision to strip Max Verstappen of his podium finish at the 2017 US GP remains one of his toughest decisions.
The Red Bull driver pulled off what first appeared to be a fantastic overtaking manoeuvre on Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen, snatching P3 and a spot on the podium from the Finn on the final lap of the United States Grand Prix in Austin.
But Verstappen was pulled from the podium ceremony and replaced by Raikkonen shortly before it started. The stewards had concluded Verstappen went off the track and gained an unfair advantage, demoting him to P4 with a five-second time penalty.
Catherine Ann Woodard Bowling-Dean
Catherine Ann Woodard Bowling-Dean, 66, of Stanton, Tennessee, passed away on January 29, 2021.
Catherine was born on November 25, 1954, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to the late Dudley Woodard and Mary Ann Davidson Woodard. Crowned Miss Shreveport, she competed in the Miss Louisiana USA pageant and modeled extensively in her teens and early twenties, before moving to the Memphis area and raising her family.
Catherine was self-made. She was a fabulous chef and the proud owner of Me and My Tea Room Catering, which she built from scratch and operated for over twenty years until her death. She and her beloved team have catered thousands of weddings and events in the Mid-South, to wide acclaim. She traveled the world and visited many exotic places, taking in cultures and broadening her culinary knowledge.
