When I first heard of Dogecoin, I thought they said Dodgy coin which would be a fake and fun version of Bitcoin, but it was actually a real and fun version. It was started as a joke, but the joke has become a farce really.
From nothing but imagination and a computer has come something ‘worth’ $50 billion, partially due to people trying to get it to a $1 value despite basically being worthless.
If an apparently joke cryptocurrency can rise up so fast in value, it can also go down just as fast, as could the slightly more credible Bitcoin. Maybe it’s time to get some physical paper, or plastic currency and stick it under a mattress where it will earn just about as much interest as it would in a bank.

HEADLINE: A public health system in crisis
Responsibility for the greatest health crisis the country has faced since tuberculosis was a major killer of Pākeha New Zealanders, accounting for 10 per cent of all deaths in the late 19th Century, can be laid firmly at the revolving door of continual changes to the administration of the health system.
Back then Māori were even more vulnerable, with their tuberculosis death rates around ten times those of non-Māori by the 1930s. Re-arranging the deckchairs on the Titanic, as proposed by the Simpson report, will not change those relative inequities of outcome that remain today, or provide more resources to alleviate the critical state of the country s emergency departments.

Do we need to be “Faster – Higher – Stronger”, the Olympic motto or should we just try to be ok and healthy? The Olympics may yet be cancelled completely after having been delayed a year says Toshihiro Nikai, secretary general of the Liberal Democratic Party, who talked of having to “give up”.
The 2020 Olympics were postponed because of the COVID pandemic and the 2021 version will have few in the stands as overseas spectators have been banned and many of the local citizens aren’t interested or actually want it cancelled. Any spectators that would attend will only be allowed to clap and not cheer which seems a rather sad, pale version of the event.
Olympics in doubt
4 hours ago Olympic rings are seen near the National Stadium in Tokyo. The mega event is in doubt because of COVID-19 surge worldwide. The Olympics may yet be cancelled completely after having been delayed a year says Toshihiro Nikai, secretary general of the Liberal Democratic Party, who talked of having to “give up” (“Virus could force Olympics cancellation, says top Japanese politician,” April 15, Gulf Today).

The UN statement on “Human Rights to Water and Sanitation” includes “Physically accessible” and although it doesn’t mention “Voters in Line” it is implied that it should be available anywhere, but it appears not so in Georgia, USA. The new law in Georgia makes it a misdemeanor crime to give food or drinks to voters waiting in long lines and again although not mentioned it is apparent that this will affect Black voters the most.
What reasonable legislator could think it is wrong for people to hand out free water and food to anyone? What reasonable legislator could think that a bottle of water and a roll could make a voter change their voting intention? What reasonable legislator still thinks the election was stolen? What reasonable legislator would try to make it more difficult for anyone to vote?
