WEARS VALLEY â A brush fire this week off Little Cove Road burned near more than 25 homes but only damaged one, and firefighters said it illustrated the importance of the wildlands task force and of Firewise safety measures.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, officials said. Neighbors in the area reported there had been a controlled burn in the area that got out of hand.
The first firefighters responding to the scene Tuesday found a fast-moving fire on a steep slope near a number of homes and rental cabins.
âThey identified the fire behavior and asked for the Wildland Task Force and thatâs when they ask all the agencies of Sevier County to respond with wildland apparatus and personnel,â said County Fire Administrator David Puckett.

Over the last several years, Young has investigated a few thefts involving large trees, but the last two involved white oaks, at least one of which was far more than a century old, cut down inside the Chattanooga city limits.
