Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake wrote in a letter to Metro council members that the department will be closely monitoring possible protests planned in Nashville. He wrote there is no indication of an imminent threat of violence or danger.
The state Capitol is located in the heart of downtown Nashville at 600 Dr. M.L.K. Jr Blvd., just south of Bicentennial Mall and about five blocks north of Lower Broadway, the city s honky-tonk entertainment district.
In the event of a protest, the MNPD said it will monitor activities at the Capitol and work with state and federal partners to ensure the rights of citizens to hold peaceful rallies and protests are protected, but do not cross into violating the law.
