Blotter: Man allegedly got high at Boot Barn with paint marker fumes, police say

Police found a 29-year-old man covered in red ink who appeared to be intoxicated after officers were dispatched to an unconscious person call at Boot Barn on Sunday, according to a police report. A 911 caller told officers with the Denton Police Department a customer was passed out in the sitting room of the shop in the 2600 block of West University Drive. The report says police noticed red ink from a paint marker on one of the walls of the dressing room he was locked in, on clothing items he had tried on and clothes he was wearing. There was also allegedly red ink on his hands, lips, teeth and tongue.

Denton Bail Fund founded by Guyer student raised $10,000 and helped free nine people

What started off as an anonymous Twitter account has become a volunteer collective that has raised over $10,000 to bail out locally jailed individuals who can’t afford it. Kellie Doucette, a senior at Guyer High School, started what became the Denton Bail Fund over the summer in response to local demonstrations protesting racial injustice following George Floyd’s death. Volunteers said they have spent $10,013 to help free nine people from both city and Denton County jails. “To start the GoFundMe and see people really want to … help others is something I would’ve never expected,” Doucette said. “It was an amazing feeling to see how many people were donating every single day … hundreds of dollars from people who probably honestly didn’t have money to donate or were probably struggling financially because of the pandemic, still reaching into their pockets to help those in their community they know are less fortunate than they are.”

Blotter: Two men arrested after allegedly stabbing man in head near Civic Center

Two men, aged 61 and 57, were arrested Saturday night following a stabbing near the Denton Civic Center that sent a man to the hospital with stab wounds to his head, cheek and back, according to a police report. A witness called police following the incident, which happened at around 9:36 p.m., and told them two suspects were still there with knives and threatening people. Police arrived and observed the two men holding large objects, the report states, which one man allegedly dropped into nearby bushes and the other put in a trash can. Officers detained them and found the victim on the south side of the Civic Center, who was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, including stab wounds to his head, cheek and back.

Blotter: Woman told police family stole more than $100,000 in silver

A woman told police Thursday that family members stole more than $100,000 in silver, according to a police report. The Denton Police Department is investigating a theft report after the woman told police family members sometime in the past two years took and sold more than $100,000 in silver from her and her father. According to the report, she doesn’t know exactly how much was taken. She told police she found the silver in the 1900 block of Willowcrest Loop, but it’s no longer there. The report says the caller’s father told her which family member took the silver and sold it. A report was taken, and an investigation is ongoing.
