PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Nebraska’s (3-5) 28-21 win over Rutgers (3-6) on Friday gave us a little bit of everything.
It gave us reminders of what this football team has been for most of the year with five fumbles, two interceptions and four total turnovers. There was also inconsistent play on special teams that allowed Rutgers to return a kick for a touchdown and covert on a fake punt.
However, Friday also gave us a taste of what most of us thought a Scott Frost offense would look like. We saw rhythm and flow and 365 total rushing yards. NU wore down the Scarlet Knights for the tune of 620 total yards and held the football for nearly 40 minutes. They put together a 2020 NCAA-best three 90+ yard scoring drives.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (KLKN) Dedrick Mills and Adrian Martinez combined to run for over 344 yards as Nebraska rallied to beat Rutgers, 28-21, on Friday night to kickoff the Big Ten’s “Champions Week”.
Nebraska compiled 620 yards of total offense, including 365 yards on the ground as a team.
The Huskers overcame a rocky start offensively with four fumbles in the game’s first 11 minutes, losing two of them. Martinez accounted for three turnovers in the first half, two fumbles and an interception in the end zone, that led to 14 Rutgers’ points.

In a season that looked for a time like it would never happen, and in a game that saw four turnovers and a 3rd quarter deficit, Nebraska (3-5) finally found a way to finish strong in a 28-21 victory over Rutgers (3-6) on Friday night in Piscataway, New Jersey, to end the shortest, and longest, regular season in recent Husker history.
In terms of total yards, it was not a contest. NU outgained the Scarlet Knights 620-252, and 365-59 in the second half alone. The great equalizer, both Friday night and throughout the 2020 season, was a toxic combination of turnovers and poor special teams play. Junior quarterback Adrian Martinez lost two fumbles and tossed a pair of interceptions. Rutgers won the field position battle by 20 yards, returned a kickoff for a score, and successfully faked a punt. In spite of themselves, Nebraska prevailed.
