Metro Detroit post offices ask customers to clear snow and ice, keep letter carriers safe file and last updated 2021-02-16 15:02:49-05 (WXYZ) — Detroit-area post offices are asking customers to clear snow and ice from sidewalks, stairs and mailboxes to help letter carriers deliver snow. “Snow and ice make delivery dangerous and slow,” said District Manager Richard Moreton, Detroit District, in a press release. “Maintaining a clear path to the mailbox – including steps, porches, walkways and street approach – will help letter carriers maintain consistent delivery service.” USPS says customers receiving door delivery should make sure their sidewalks, steps and porches are clear. Customers receiving curbside delivery should remove snow piles left by snowplows to keep access to their mailboxes clear for letter carriers.

The photos posted on the Facebook page show the dewatering process of the Poe Lock, the largest lock at the Soo at 1,200 feet long, 110 feet wide and 32 feet deep. It s the lock that the 1,000-foot freighters go in. The first step, according to the U.S. Army Corps of engineers, is a crane lowering a panel bridge into place across the lock.
