(WXYZ) â Detroit-area post offices are asking customers to clear snow and ice from sidewalks, stairs and mailboxes to help letter carriers deliver snow.
âSnow and ice make delivery dangerous and slow,â said District Manager Richard Moreton, Detroit District, in a press release. âMaintaining a clear path to the mailbox â including steps, porches, walkways and street approach â will help letter carriers maintain consistent delivery service.â
USPS says customers receiving door delivery should make sure their sidewalks, steps and porches are clear. Customers receiving curbside delivery should remove snow piles left by snowplows to keep access to their mailboxes clear for letter carriers.

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (WXYZ) â The Soo Locks closed earlier this month for the regular winter period, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers â Detroit District, has now posted photos showing what it looks like to dewater the locks.
The photos posted on the Facebook page show the dewatering process of the Poe Lock, the largest lock at the Soo at 1,200 feet long, 110 feet wide and 32 feet deep. It s the lock that the 1,000-foot freighters go in.
The first step, according to the U.S. Army Corps of engineers, is a crane lowering a panel bridge into place across the lock. Those bridges allow for heavy equipment to be moved when needed.

DETROIT The Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan will close to marine traffic beginning 11:59 p.m. Friday through 12:01 a.m. March 25 to perform critical maintenance.
The operating season is fixed by federal regulation and is driven in part by the feasibility of vessels operating in typical ice conditions.
Every year, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers uses the winter period to perform maintenance on the locks.
“It is a difficult time in terms of weather to complete this work, but it keeps this important national infrastructure project operating during shipping season,” Soo Area Office area engineer Kevin Sprague said.
