Grades 10-12 at Detroit Lakes High to resume in-person learning Feb. 16
With active case numbers for COVID-19 on a downward trend, Detroit Lakes Public Schools Superintendent Mark Jenson announced at Monday night s school board meeting that students in grades 10-12 will return to fully in-person classes on Tuesday, Feb. 16.

Students in grades 10-12, the last grades at Detroit Lakes Public Schools to still be taking hybrid classes a combination of in-person and remote learning will go back to fully in-person classes on Tuesday, Feb. 16, as the number of active COVID-19 cases in Becker County continues to decrease.
High school service clubs raise $1,750 for Frazee family who lost home in fire
The Interact volunteer service clubs from Detroit Lakes and Frazee high schools raised $1,750 for the family during their drive-thru, pulled-pork fundraiser on Saturday, Jan. 23 at Detroit Lakes High School. The money will benefit the Krejce family, of Frazee, who lost their home in a fire just after the new year.

For AIS coordinator Karl Koenig, keeping invasives out of Becker County lakes is personal
Koenig has traveled a lot and done a lot of fishing, but he’s come to believe that there’s no better fishing than in Minnesota lakes country. You can go from large lake to small lake, go after all different sorts of game fish, catch fish in winter and summer, and in general just really enjoy the sport in all its aspects, he said.

Karl Koenig grew up in Becker County and loves to fish, year round. So he knows the area lakes well and feels the loss keenly when aquatic invasive plants and animals change the biology of those lakes.

Michael Ward Sheldon, 78, of Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at Banner University Medical Center, Tucson, AZ.
Michael “Mike” Ward Sheldon was born on November 17, 1942, in Fargo, ND, to Ward and Frances (Schur) Sheldon. He grew up on the family farm in Wheatland, ND, where his family raised grain and sheep. He was involved in 4-H showing steers. His school years were attended at Wheatland, graduating high school in 1960. He was a football player in high school and an avid athlete. He married Lana (Svare) Shuhart in 1963 and they had two children, Layne and Stephanie. He was a member of the Army National Guard and was awarded an honorable discharge. He received his Elementary Education degree in 1967 from Valley City State University. Mike played football for Valley City State while in college. He was named All-Conference as a fullback in 1963, helping the Vikings achieve a conference championship. Mike’s 1963 team was induc
