Teton County residents can now cast a ballot in the May 18 election on the Teton School District 401 plant facilities levy, and Victor residents can vote on a general obligation bond to build a new city hall and renovate the existing public works facility.
The school districtâs levy was first approved in 1985 to fund maintenance and upgrades on school facilities. If approved, the levy would remain the same as last year at $500,000 per year for the next five years. The annual cost of the levy to property owners is approximately $22 per $100,000 of property value. The levy needs 55 percent voter approval to pass. All Teton County voters are eligible to participate in this election.
TSD 401 updates COVID-19 plan
TETON COUNTY, Idaho (KIFI) - The Teton School District 401 Board of Trustees updated the existing COVID-19 plan during a three-hour special meeting Monday.
The updates include about two dozen new words to clarify that students and staff can take off masks when outside as long as they can physically distance by six feet.
During the discussion, the school board reviewed the results of a survey sent last week to staff, parents and students. 1,695 responses were received. Trustees also reviewed a staff-specific analysis and heard from the three K-5 principals, Angela Hoopes, president of the district’s certified teachers union, and Megan Bybee, director of Curriculum Instruction and Assessment for TSD 401.
At this Monday s meeting, Teton School District 401 Board of Trustees began a discussion around the rule that K-5 students must wear masks at recess if they want to play within 6 feet of one another.
Superintendent Monte Woolstenhulme began the conversation on April 12 with a presentation to the board on the latest Covid metrics and recommendations. He underscored the fact that the district s efforts have been successful in keeping numbers of infections very low. The work we re doing is keeping us in school, he said, observing that neighboring districts have not shared in similar success.Â
Teton Valley Health Infection Preventionist Nikki Ripplinger gave a brief presentation that echoed the superintendent s sentiment. Teton School District 401 Board of Trustees held their March meeting on the evening of March 8. In addition to an update on Covid and confirming that students and teachers will continue to wear masks to prevent the spread of the pathogen in schools, the board discussed a few other topics.
⢠The districtâs property for sale in Driggs has been sold, and the transaction is complete.
⢠The property that is currently under contract in Victor is contingent on the approval from the city planning and zoning commission for a zone change. The contract is legally binding, and the board confirmed that while they are aware of a second offer on the property, they are bound by Idaho Code 33601 to prioritize the current offer. If the current offer does not go through because the zone change is not approved, the district must then re-appraise the property and again accept sealed bids. Only if they receive zero sealed bids would the property again return to the open market.
