The Belgrade City Council is poised to pass a resolution making it clear that it will comply with new state law related to emergency health regulations so that Belgrade is not penalized financially when receiving future federal appropriations.
Such a resolution would send âa message that weâll comply with the directives of the state and not necessarily those of the local health board,â City Manager Ted Barkley said during this Mondayâs council meeting.
By doing so, he explained, the city will not be penalized under a provision in the clause in House Bill 632, which stipulates that federal appropriations for municipalities adopting health restrictions more stringent than those in effect at the state level to be cut by 20 percent.

Martineau âwas just a kind-hearted soul,â said Belgrade City Manager Ted Barkley. âHe was kind-hearted when he didnât have to be. He was a good egg.â
Barkleyâs memories of Martineau go back to February 2014, when Barkley was new in Belgrade.
âHe was really welcoming and wanted to know how he could be helpful,â he remembered.
Their âgovernment jobsâ almost overlapped; Martineau had been appointed to fill out the term of Gallatin County Commissioner Bill Murdock from June 2013 to January 2014.
At the time, Martineau commented that it would be good for the commission to have a commissioner who didnât live in the Gallatin Valley.
Belgrade citizens are being asked to weigh in with their opinions before the city prepares grant applications for sidewalk projects in various places around town.
During Mondayâs City Council meeting, City Manager Ted Barkley said Belgrade has applied at least three times in recent years for Montana Transportation Alternatives grants without success. He said grant reviewers commented that the city should make a better effort to include the public in the project prioritization process.
To that end, Barkley said the city will ask consultants to assist with a public outreach campaign, during which community members will be asked to weigh in with their opinions.
