The revelations were followed by the retirement of Reeves and Chief of Staff Bob Brown, both of whom Paxton implicated in the agency s refusal to levy charges against one of the officers involved in Greene s death.
According to Paxton s notes, Master Trooper Chris Hollingsworth turned off his body camera before the arrest and beating that led to Greene s death, an act Paxton wrote merited an obstruction charge against the long-time trooper.
Paxton also recommended an aggravated assault charge against Hollingsworth, who faced being fired for his role in Greene s death, immediately before dying in a single-car crash in September 2020.
James praised Paxton and whistle-blowing Trooper Carl Cavalier, who was interviewed by WBRZ in Baton Rouge last week, for being role models within the department despite pressure from within the agency.

BATON ROUGE- In the rotunda of the State Capitol Tuesday, members from the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus gathered to discuss a request to have the United States Department of Justice investigate Louisiana State Police.
It comes after numerous stories filed by the WBRZ Investigative Unit that show cover-ups at the agency tied to Ronald Greene s death in police custody two years ago. Initially, State Police told the family Greene died in a crash. But, body camera footage showed Greene alive at the time he exited his car.
Black Legislative Caucus Calling on Federal Investigation of LSP
The Louisiana Black Caucus is calling on the Department of Justice to conduct a full-scale investigation of state police and root out what they say are systemic practices of racism. Baton Rouge Representative Ted James acknowledges reform by the new superintendent, Col. Lamar Davis, who is Black, but said he can only do so much.
“He cannot simply continue to reform that agency and restore trust at the same time trying to cover up what we all know is a massive and systemic coverup within that department,” said James.
James said it was five years ago when they gathered at the capitol asking state police to investigate Baton Rouge Police over the death of Alton Sterling. Now they are calling on LSP to be investigated.
