Itsrockandroll A stormed home to victory in Thursday night’s (Jan. 14) $20,000 Open Handicap Pace at Dover Downs.
US Captain and Tiger Thompson N alternated on the lead through the first turn, and Tiger Thompson N seized command from US Captain past a :27.1 first quarter after initially yielding. Tiger Thompson N and driver Dexter Dunn rated a :55.2 half and sped to three-quarters in 1:22.4 with Itsrockandroll A and Corey Callahan making steady first-over gains from fifth and Soho Burning Love A, who was taking on male competition for the first time, shadowing cover. In the stretch, Itsrockandroll A zeroed in on Tiger Thompson N and prevailed by a nose in 1:50.2. Tiger Thompson N was a gallant second; Soho Burning Love A (Tim Tetrick) finished third as the 3-5 favorite, only missing by a neck.

Australian import Let It Ride N will make his Yonkers Raceway debut in the featured $30,000 open handicap pace on opening night, Monday (Jan. 11).
The move to the Hilltop comes after the Rock N Roll Heaven gelding took a Meadowlands Preferred/Open Handicap in such style as to garner praise like, “he really amazed me,” from trainer Nifty Norman.
In that start Jan. 2, driver Dexter Dunn slotted Let It Ride into seventh after starting from post 9 as Harambe Deo ripped an opening quarter in :26.1. Let It Ride N followed cover from Rock Diamonds and drew within four lengths of the lead as Harambe Deo blitzed a :53.2 half-mile. Dunn tipped Let It Ride N three-deep at the midway point of the final turn and the pacer rocketed into contention.
For a guy who didn’t arrive until four months ago, Todd McCarthy continues to impress in harness racing’s toughest driver colony stateside.
The 27-year-old McCarthy continued to do good things since his arrival from Australia, winning four times on the Friday night card at The Meadowlands.
The five-time driving champion at Australia’s Menangle Racetrack finished second at the recently concluded Fall Big M Meeting, ending up just four winners behind leading pilot Dexter Dunn, the native New Zealander who won 46 races.
Break The Deal got McCarthy’s big Friday off to a good start in the opener, taking a low-end fillies and mares pace in 1:52.4 as the 8-5 favourite for trainer Tom Shay before recording three more victories with non-chalks.

The incredible early success of the Nifty Norman-trained Let It Ride N continued in the featured $28,000 Open/Preferred Handicap for pacers, as the eight-year-old gelded son of Rock N Roll Heaven-Love A Gamble stayed perfect in five North American starts since his arrival from Australia in late November.
Driver Dexter Dunn didn’t ask Let It Ride N for big speed at the start, settling into seventh along the pylons from post 9 in the nine-horse field around the first turn. Searching for a second-consecutive score, Harambe Deo set a fast pace, hitting the quarter in :26.1.
