Photo credit: Colin Hogan Today, Minister Catherine Martin announces that 422 artworks by 70 artists will be added to the National Collection thanks to the €1m fund provided to the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) and the Crawford Art Gallery in October 2020. The Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media has been working with the National Cultural Institutions through the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic to develop meaningful ways to support artists across the country at this challenging time. In October 2020, Minister Martin committed €1m from her department to IMMA and the Crawford Art Gallery to fund the purchase of artworks by artists living and/or working in Ireland. WATCH: Offaly GAA club planning virtual Lip Sync Battle Reporter: );   ); Edenderry GAA are keeping the lockdown goodwill going as they plan for a virtual Lip Sync Battle during the May Bank Holiday weekend.  On Sunday, May 2, 12 acts from the club will virtually perform for three judges. This follows a hugely successful run of online bingo run by the club every weekend. That continues next Saturday night, April 10. The club is previewing the Lip Sync with a series of videos on social media, including the one below featuring Mark Forde and Declan Byrne. The lads reckon the other acts are playing for second place.

Next up in the bandroom, we have Butternut Sweetheart taking to the stage on Saturday March 13th for an afternoon of their ‘post apocalyptic underwater indie’. Butternut Sweetheart is the project of Melbourne based producer and multi instrumentalist, Luke Moseley. Since their debut EP in 2019, Moseley and his band have been crafting their own brand of intricate and alluring indie-rock, and have garnered acclaim from Triple J’s Richard Kingsmill (“pulled me in, sucked me under and then I floated away with it”) and Declan Byrne (“new Butternut Sweetheart reels you in with that moving push pull and lush production and it s a swirling ride that i had to go in on a few times in a row”), and received radio play around the country.
