IPMAN lauds FG for rehabilitation of Port Harcourt refinery

Lagos, April 7, 2021 The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has lauded the Federal Government for its effort to rehabilitate the Port Harcourt Refinery. IPMAN’S president, Mr Chinedu Okoronkwo, told newsmen on Wednesday in Lagos that having functional refineries was in the best interest of the nation. Naija247news reports that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and an Italian company, Tecnimont SpA, had on Tuesday signed an agreement for the rehabilitation of the 210,000BPD refinery at a sum of 1.5 billion dollars. The rehabilitation project has a completion timeline of between 18 and 44 months under a three-phase arrangement. Okoronkwo said: “We believe that rehabilitation of the PH refinery is a welcome development because it has been in a moribund state for some time.

The rehabilitation project which has a completion timeline of between 18 and 44 months under a three-phase arrangement was awarded to Milan based Tecnimont SpA at a lump sum contract price of US$1.5 billion, inclusive of VAT and other statutory payments.

NNPC signs N570bn contract for PH refinery repair

  The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has signed a contract with a Milan based company, Tecnimont SpA for the rehabilitation of the 210,000 barrels per day Port Harcourt Refinery Company (PHRC) in Alesa-Eleme, Rivers state. Recall that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) recently approved the sum of $1.5 billion (about N570 billion) for the project which has a completion timeline of between 18 and 44 months under a three-phase arrangement. Speaking during the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract signing ceremony on Tuesday, the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Mallam Mele Kyari said, “Mr President promised Nigerians he will fix the refineries.” He assured that the same transparent process has been emplaced for the rehabilitation of the Warri and Kaduna Refineries whose EPCIC contracts would be awarded in June 2021.
