A bright opportunity for budding engineers

A bright opportunity for budding engineers Carl Kieke For girls with a yen for scientific or engineering activities, you have an opportunity to build a solar-powered car and compare it to cars built by other girls from the area. And you don’t have to go anywhere to do it; it’s all virtual. This event is designated for Girl Scouts of all ages and non-Girl Scouts from kindergarten through high school  who live in the area covered by Girl Scouts of Central Texas. That includes any county completely south of Interstate 20 – i.e., if I-20 runs through your county, you are not in Central Texas Council.

Jason Burnette named CEO of local Girl Scouts organization

Jason Burnette The Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council announced the appointment of Jason Burnette as its new chief executive officer. He will join the council in late June, after serving as chief operating officer at the Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains, where he developed and managed the implementation of long-term membership growth strategies and the sustainability of council-wide programs, especially in underserved populations. He also helped to implement the Council’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) into its culture and all aspects of its operations. Prior to that Burnette held several roles of increasing responsibility at the Girl Scouts of the USA, the parent organization of all U.S. based girl scout councils. Each role focused on membership strategy, while his most recent roles combined operations and membership expertise, where he partnered with councils across the U.S. to help shape their strategies and measurement in these areas.

Big Country juniors earn 4-H accolades

Big Country juniors earn 4-H accolades Carl Kieke Last week I reported on the 4-H Seniors who advanced to the state round-up based on their finish at the District 7 competition. This week, we look at the juniors who finished Top 3 in their events. Juniors do not advance to the state level. Runnels and Taylor counties picked up quite a few top finishers in a variety of categories, which bodes well for competitions in future years as these members advance to the senior level. Runnels County competitors picked up four top finishers, while Taylor County had three. Rylee Vahlenkamp was first with her animal science presentation and Braden Hoppe in beef. Both also received division championship recognition. Joining them with first place presentations were Kaylee Scott in horse and Jaxon and Hayze Honensee in ag technology and farm safety. In addition, Paysley Branham was third in animal science.
