General Override

Generations of diplomatic and military historians will debate that question, and there will be blame to share among presidents, members of Congress, generals, and statesmen. Here’s an easier question: Who lost the debate over when to leave Afghanistan? The military did. On Wednesday, President Joe Biden announced that the United States would fully withdraw from Afghanistan by September 11, 2021, exactly two decades after the attacks that incited the American invasion. As Biden weighed his options, top generals argued strenuously against a complete pullout, pushing for leaving a small force behind. Biden rejected the argument. Biden’s hand had been somewhat forced by his predecessor Donald Trump’s earlier commitment to leave by May 1, 2021.

CBS News mysterious retired newsman support adds to chaos surrounding 60 Minutes report on DeSantis

Fox News contributor Ben Domenech reacts to 60 Minutes standing by its disputed reporting on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and the state s vaccine rollout. CBS News’ 60 Minutes enlisted a mysterious retired newsman to defend the controversial report about Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ coronavirus vaccine rollout, but the famed newsmagazine didn’t explain who the alleged former journalist was and his identity remains a mystery. The now-infamous 60 Minutes report suggested DeSantis, R., gave the Publix grocery store chain preferable treatment to offer the coronavirus vaccine based on its donations to his PAC, while also suggesting he withheld vaccines from minorities. CBS News has maintained it did nothing wrong, but bipartisan critics have found multiple issues with the reporting, leading the newsmagazine to address the backlash.

Do You Know Which U S Presidents Have Served In the Military?

To date, twenty-nine presidents served in the military and a dozen were even general officers. Here s What You Need to Know: Not all Presidents were veterans, but being a veteran certainly gave them a leg up in the polls. President Joe Biden is the “Commander in Chief” and that is far from an honorary title. In fact, the Constitution states, “The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States.” Since the National Security Act of 1947, that has also been understood to mean all United States Armed Forces. Yet, the exact degree of the authority that the Constitution actually grants POTUS has been the subject of debate, especially in recent years.
