A day after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended children wear masks in school and people vaccinated against COVID-19 return to wearing masks indoors in hotspot areas like Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott (R) issued a new executive order making it harder for local officials to require anyone wear face coverings.
Abbott s said his latest order, GA-38 (see below), is related to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and is designed to promote statewide uniformity and certainty in the state s COVID-19 response by combining several existing orders into one.
Some of the previous orders had to do with COVID-19 testing and the continued availability of information coming from hospitals with regard to bed capacity. The order also clarifies the state s policy on vaccines, specifically related to governmental entities or entities using public funds not being able to require them or proof of having had one to receive services. What’s a governor to do when the state Department of Public Safety (DPS) needs help arresting criminal trespassers, drug smugglers, and human traffickers crossing the southern border? If that governor is Greg Abbott in Texas, he calls for the Texas National Guard to help. Abbott is focused like a laser beam on the Biden border crisis because he has to be. Team Biden is too busy denying the reality on the ground to be of much help.
Governor Abbott sent a letter to Major General Tracy R. Norris, Adjutant General of the Texas National Guard justifying his request as a response to the disaster orders he has already issued due to the border crisis.

Abbott announced in June that those who commit criminal trespass or other state offenses will be subject to arrest and confinement. Abbott s office says today s order builds upon the governor s disaster declaration directing DPS to enforce all federal and state criminal laws at the border, including criminal trespassing, smuggling and human trafficking.

Mayor of Kempner, John Wilkerson, announced Tuesday, July 27, that city staff discovered all emails from a previous city-funded email account used by former Mayor Keith Harvey had been deleted.
Mayor Wilkerson defeated Keith Harvey in the May 1st election, receiving 127 votes in comparison to Harveyâs 28 votes.
Currently, under Texas law deleting one email is a criminal violation of the Texas Government Code under section 552.351, and punishable as a Class B misdemeanor.
