Legend, Bob Marley & the Wailers’ 1984 greatest hits collection, which remains the best-selling reggae album of all time,
Rastaman Vibration was the record that broke Marley to American audiences, becoming the first Marley LP to reach the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
On the second track, “Roots Rock Reggae,” Marley took new listeners by the hand and introduced them to a new sound from the faraway island of Jamaica. “Play I some music,” Bob sang, and the I Threes Rita Marley, Marcia Griffiths, and Judy Mowatt replied in unison, “This is reggae music.”

On the exact same day, not insignificantly, a group of independent venue owners met to chart a course of action in the face of great adversity.
“I went to bed on March 12 with about 40 shows that weekend and when I woke up they were all gone,” James “Disco Donnie” Estopinal, Jr., Founder/CEO of Disco Donnie Presents told Pollstar as a part of this issue’s special survey (see Industry Survey).

Ronson enlisted Pete Nappi for the project, releasing the version with a video by Henry Stein. It features clips of Toots Hibbert performing with his band, producer Zak Starkey, and Sharna Sshh Liguz Starkey’s partner and co-founder of label Trojan Jamaica. The video also features President Biden, protesters in the streets, and dancers around the world.
“Toots was a giant and his music will live on, longer than all of us, and we are honored to have been asked to contribute to this project…. especially now!” Ronson said in a statement. “Considering the current political climate, maybe we should stand outside the capitol building in DC blasting this?”
