Dallas designer sees team get Oscar nod for ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’
Robert Winn helped create the backdrop against which Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis starred. His team picked up a nomination for production design.

It wasn’t his first encounter with the Academy Awards. Winn was part of the design team that won an Oscar for the 2010 film
Alice in Wonderland.
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Winn helped simulate a recording studio in 1927 Chicago. The movie earned five Oscar nominations, including best actress (Viola Davis) and best actor (the late Chadwick Boseman, who recently won a posthumous Golden Globe for best actor in a drama).

Marie Tippit, the widow of the Dallas police officer killed by Lee Harvey Oswald about 45 minutes after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, has died. She was 92.
Tippit died Tuesday at a hospital in the East Texas city of Sulphur Springs after being diagnosed with pneumonia following a positive test for COVID-19, said her son, Curtis Tippit, 62. He said his mother also suffered from congestive heart failure.

DALLAS (AP) Marie Tippit, the widow of the Dallas police officer killed by Lee Harvey Oswald about 45 minutes after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, has died. She was 92.
Tippit died Tuesday at a hospital in the East Texas city of Sulphur Springs after being diagnosed with pneumonia following a positive test for COVID-19, said her son, Curtis Tippit, 62. He said his mother also suffered from congestive heart failure.
Stephen Fagin, curator of the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, which tells the story of Kennedy’s assassination in downtown Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963, said Tippit was “one of our last direct links to the personal pain and tragedy of the assassination.”
