For 15 years, the teen birth rate in the United States and Oklahoma has, for the most part, steadily declined. While experts cannot point to any single reason for this decline, evidence suggests that two large factors are likely that more teens are abstaining from sexual activity and more teens who are sexually active are using contraception. This is great news because teen parents too often do not receive the unique support they need, resulting in limited educational and career opportunities.
But new data showed a small increase in 2019. And what might data show for teen births that occurred from pregnancies in late 2020 and early 2021, when the COVID-19 pandemic made students’ and parents’ lives unpredictable and chaotic? We will not know 2021 teen birth rate data until 2023, but there are reasons to believe that we may see an increase in the teen birth rate in Oklahoma and across the nation in 2021.

Wisconsin health officials have repeatedly declined to say how many residents have acquired COVID-19 after being fully vaccinated, even though theyâre tracking such âbreakthroughâ infections and federal officials have reported more than 7,000 cases nationally.
A new clinical study shows the Johnson and Johnson vaccine is about 66 percent effective against moderate to severe COVID-19.That also includes variants. It s the same number the company released earlier this year.Right now the Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine is on pause in the U.S. because of concerns over a possible link to rare cases of blood clots.Â
The U.S. total of 7,157 cases is among more than 87 million people who have received both doses of the Moderna or Pfizer injections or the single-dose Johnson & Johnson shot, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said last week. Thatâs about 0.008%.
