The father of a student at Broadview-Thomson K-8 in Seattle says enough is enough and that he wants Seattle Public Schools to clear out a nearby homeless encampment.
Ryle Goodrich tells KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson school leaders are putting politics before the safety of the children.
“They’re trying to ingratiate themselves with very extreme people out there in order to make themselves appealing Seattle City council candidates, but they’re just disregarding the safety and well being of our students while doing that,” Goodrich said.

Deputy shoots, injures man in Buckley Deedee Sun
A 70-year-old man is in critical condition after Pierce County deputies opened fire while responding to a 911 call.
Police said at around 1:45 p.m, they responded to a 911 call in the 14900 block of 272 Avenue East for a domestic violence incident involving a weapon. When deputies arrived and made contact with the suspect, he was armed with a handgun.
One deputy opened fire. Investigators have not released what happened in the moments that led the deputy to shoot the suspect and have not said if the suspect fired any shots.
“Deputies immediately started lifesaving measures, and the subject was airlifted to the hospital,” said Wendy Haddow with the Tacoma Police Department.

A homeless encampment near a North Seattle K-8 school will be allowed to remain, at least for now, with students set to return to in-person instruction on Monday, April 19.
The encampment composed of roughly 40 tents is situated on an adjacent property directly behind Broadview-Thomson K-8, just north of Seattle’s Bitter Lake neighborhood.
According to Seattle Public Schools, the camp “is not on school grounds, but on district property that is separated from the school with a secure fence.” Given its proximity to the school, students, families, and staffs are being asked to enter and exit facilities from a separate entrance along Greenwood Avenue.
Seattle suddenly cancels 1,200 Lumen Field vaccine appointments Deedee Sun
Seattle canceled 1,200 vaccine appointments at Lumen Field on Tuesday, catching people by surprise. The appointments were largely for the end of this week – the first days of eligibility opening to the general public.
The cancellations happened several hours before any explanation, sparking frustration and disappointment in a private “vaccine hunters” group on Facebook.
Several KIRO7 employees were among those with canceled appointments.
“I was definitely excited to finally get it and just kind of got slapped in the face - no you have to wait again,” said Eddie Galdamez, who said he booked his Pfizer shot 1 and shot 2 appointments two weeks ago. Both appointments were canceled.
