(June 1, 2021, JNS Wire) Carson City, Nevada – A bill strengthening Holocaust and Genocide education in Nevada, which passed out of the state legislature with unanimous support, was signed into law today by Governor Sisolak.
Assembly bill 231 is a bipartisan piece of legislation sponsored by Assemblywomen Lesley Cohen and Lisa Krasner and supported by Lieutenant Governor Kate Marshall.
The bill will establish an educational committee within the Nevada Department of Education to evaluate curriculum standards, inventory classroom materials, and assess instructor training needs. In addition to education relating to the Holocaust, the bill also addresses other genocides such as the Armenian, Cambodian, Darfur, Guatemalan and Rwandan genocides.
In a unanimous vote, the California State Assembly passed House Resolution 48 honoring California's Israeli-American community, and for the first time ever, recognized their unique contributions.

Authorities are investigating whether an attack on diners thought to be Jewish outside a restaurant in Los Angeles late Tuesday night was a hate crime, CBS Los Angeles reports.
Police are also probing an incident caught on security video the night before in which an Orthodox Jewish man is seen being chased through a parking lot by a caravan of people waving Palestinian flags. He escaped unharmed.
The man from the parking lot told CBS L.A. they were chanting Allahu Akbar (Arabic for God is the greatest).
Pro-Palestinian Group Attacks LA Jewish Men
Jewish groups condemned the attack. “To those who still believe there is a dividing line between hatred of Israel and antisemitism: open your eyes,” the American Jewish Committee tweeted.

Witnesses to the attack told NBC Los Angeles people in cars displaying Palestinian flags were shouting antisemitic slurs at Jewish diners. Another witness told CBS Los Angeles that the caravan was throwing bottles at a group of people sitting outside of Sushi Fumi.
