The Boston Bruins potentially have helped the Detroit Red Wings’ rebuild.
The first 16 draft spots, which includes the Wings at No. 6, go to the 15 teams that did not advance to the playoffs, and to expansion Seattle.
Playoff teams that did not win the division and failed to make the conference finals the Capitals check both boxes will be assigned the spots starting at 17, based on points.
The Capitals finished with 77 points. Entering Monday’s games, they and the St. Louis Blues were the only teams eliminated. The Blues earned 63 points, so the Capitals slot behind them.
Division winners that do not advance to the conference finals slot into the spots 25-28. Conference final losers slot into spots 29 and 30; the Stanley Cup runner-up gets the 31st pick and the champion picks 32nd.

As the 2020-21 NHL season ends, clubs are either preparing for the playoffs or looking to the future. For teams outside of the playoffs, the offseason is a time to assess the regular season: Good signings, promising prospects, special teams effectiveness and roster depth are just some of the factors that contribute to a team’s success.
It was a weird season to analyze, bearing in mind that these divisions are not the NHL norm and that, for the entirety of the shortened regular season (and the first two rounds of the playoffs), clubs played only in interdivisional contests. Rebuilds and expectations also have to be considered to truly measure success.

Flyers end crushing season with win over Devils
Joel Farabee scored two goals and James van Riemsdyk added one on the power play to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 4-2 win over the New Jersey Devils in the season finale for both teams on Monday night.

PHILADELPHIA Gritty stripped off his Philadelphia Flyers jersey and black shorts and left only his green belly button exposed as the final horn sounded.
Much like their mascot, the streak goes on for the Flyers.
They finished yet another season without a Stanley Cup they haven’t won one since consecutive championships in 1974 and 1975 and this ends as one of the more disheartening ones in franchise history.
